AVIATION RISE TO THE OCCASION AS GUARDS PROTECT SECOND PLACE

With every point being fiercely contested, the victorious Aviation pair of Abdullah Absi and Yousif Al Qaed overcame the heroic efforts of Yaqoob Yousif and Abdul Kareem 6-2 and 6-3 in two sets.
From a lineup of 16 players at the beginning of the tournament in summer 2015, the Guards pair had battled through to the finals with a special blend of skill, determination and teamwork… but in the end it turned out that wasn’t enough.
“This has been a great challenge and tremendous fun...” said Lt Yaqoob, “It has been a privilege to play against such great opposition and to entertain VIP spectators. This year has been an year of very close competition and we came second but next year is another year and we WILL be back looking for revenge. The Guards do not give in easily.”
Speaking at the Officers Club after the match, Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan said: “I was very happy to watch this outstanding performance by both teams and to see how much they enjoyed displaying their skills and sporting spirit.”
