‘WEAPON SMUGGLING ATTEMPT FOILED BY GREAT POLICING – COP HONOURED BY CHIEF OF POLICE & D.G -
A man awaiting trial on terrorism charges for the murder of three Policemen was narrowly prevented from smuggling a dangerous weapon into Jau prison by an alert Policeman of the General Directorate of Guards.
The accused, who was at court for a remand hearing, was secretly handed a bladed weapon taped to a mobile telephone and a mobile charger by his mother who hugged him in the court room and slipped the items to him from under her abaya.
If it had not been for the professionalism and training of a sharp eyed Policeman the knife and mobile phone in the hands of detainees could have had extremely serious consequences.
N/Areef (Warrant officer) Mohamed Ali Al Yafai, who has received a commendation for his actions, was on prisoner supervision duty at the court when he “felt” that there something just not right about the mother and son hug. Mohamed kept a careful eye on the pair and when the time was right he searched the prisoner and uncovered the contraband. The mother and son pair have been referred to the Public Prosecution where they face further charges in connection with the incident.
The work and professionalism of N / Areef Mohammed was commended by the Chief of Public Security, Major general Tariq Al-Hassan and Director General of Guards Brigadier Khalid Al Wazzan at a ceremony at Police HQ to present him with a certificate of commendation and to personally thank Mohammed for his dedication and vigilance.
Since joining the Police 11 years ago Mohamed, has taken part in a range of training courses including the General Police Duties refresher course run by the General Directorate of Guards. Mohamed is a keen footballer and sportsman who regularly takes part in Police team events.
